The Learning Support Officer supports the educational mission and Christian ethos of the school by assisting teachers in the delivery of learning programs and supporting students to engage positively in learning. <p><strong>Learning Support Officer&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Sapphire Coast Anglican College</strong></p> <p><strong>Full-time&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><strong>Start date:&nbsp;</strong>12th October 2026</p> <p>Contract position for one year with potential for ongoing</p> <p><strong>Reports to:</strong> Classroom Teacher / Director of Education Support Centre / Director of Teaching &amp; Learning</p> <p><strong>Role Purpose</strong></p> <p>The Learning Support Officer supports the educational mission and Christian ethos of the school by assisting teachers in the delivery of learning programs and supporting students to engage positively in learning. The role contributes to inclusive education and student wellbeing while upholding Anglican values, school policies and professional standards.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p> <p><strong>Student Support</strong></p> <ul> <li>Support individual students and small groups with learning activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.</li> <li>Assist students with additional learning needs, including students with disability, learning difficulties, behavioural or social‑emotional needs.</li> <li>Support students’ wellbeing, social skills and positive behaviour, modelling respectful and caring relationships consistent with Anglican values.</li> <li>Assist with personal care, mobility or health‑related support where required, in accordance with training and school policies.</li> <li>Supervise students during lessons, excursions, camps, chapel services and playground duty as directed.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Classroom and Learning Support</strong></p> <ul> <li>Prepare and organise learning materials, resources and equipment.</li> <li>Support classroom routines and transitions.</li> <li>Assist with the implementation of learning adjustments, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), behaviour support plans or pastoral care strategies.</li> <li>Observe and record student engagement and progress and provide feedback to teachers as requested.</li> <li>Support the inclusive participation of students in academic, co‑curricular and pastoral activities.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Administrative and General Duties</strong></p> <ul> <li>Help maintain a safe, orderly and welcoming learning environment.</li> <li>Use school‑based technology and learning systems as required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Professional Conduct and School Life</strong></p> <ul> <li>Work collaboratively with teachers, learning support staff, chaplains and school leadership.</li> <li>Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, staff and parents/carers as appropriate.</li> <li>Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy legislation.</li> <li>Support and participate in the broader life of the school, including chapel, assemblies and school events where appropriate.</li> <li>Comply with all school policies, including child protection, WHS and duty of care obligations.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Key Skills and Attributes</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to work effectively with children and young people.</li> <li>Commitment to the values and ethos of an Anglican school.</li> <li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills.</li> <li>Patience, empathy and a supportive, inclusive approach to learning.</li> <li>Ability to follow teacher direction and work effectively as part of a team.</li> <li>Basic literacy, numeracy and organisational skills.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications and Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Relevant qualifications or experience in education support (e.g.&nbsp;Certificate III or IV in Education Support – desirable).</li> <li>Working With Children Check (WWCC) – mandatory.</li> <li>Understanding of inclusive education and student wellbeing, or willingness to undertake professional learning.</li> <li>First Aid training – desirable or required depending on school policy.</li> <li>Willingness to support and uphold the Christian mission and values of the school.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Conditions of Employment</strong></p> <ul> <li>Employment conditions in accordance with the school’s enterprise agreement.</li> <li>Hours and duties as determined by the school.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ongoing professional learning and formation may be required and, if so, will be provided at the school’s expense and at a mutually agreed and convenient time.</li> </ul>
