<p>An outstanding opportunity for an experienced educator and leader to lead the future direction of English teaching and learning and make a lasting impact on student achievement.</p> <p>As Head of English, you will lead the English Department across Years 5–12, driving excellence in teaching and learning, curriculum development, staff leadership, and student achievement. The successful applicant will provide strategic direction for the Department, build staff capability, foster a culture of professional growth and accountability, and lead initiatives that improve educational outcomes.</p> <p>Through strong educational leadership and evidence-informed practice, the Head of English will play an important role in advancing academic excellence and supporting the College's commitment to high-quality teaching and learning. This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced educational leader who can inspire others, lead change effectively and develop a cohesive, high-performing team committed to achieving exceptional outcomes for students.</p> <p><strong>This is a Permanent Full-Time teaching position with a three-year (3-point) promotional appointment as Head of English (2027–2029).</strong></p> <p>The Head of English is responsible for the leadership and management of the English Department and for strengthening student learning, engagement and achievement across Years 5–12.</p> <p>Reporting to the Director of Curriculum, the successful applicant will lead curriculum development, teaching and learning, assessment, staff development and Department improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with NESA requirements, College priorities and contemporary evidence-informed practice.</p> <p>The role includes responsibility for curriculum oversight, assessment and reporting processes, Department planning, resource management and the continuous improvement of student outcomes. The Head of English is supported by an Assistant Head of English and the Head of Curriculum (Stage 3).</p> <p>The successful applicant will be an exceptional classroom practitioner, a highly effective communicator and a respected educational leader who can inspire others, lead change and build a culture of excellence and accountability.</p> <p><strong>About You</strong></p> <p>The successful applicant will demonstrate:</p> <ul> <li>A working understanding of, and commitment to, the Catholic ethos of a School in the Edmund Rice tradition.</li> <li>Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours and professional boundaries that reflect child safeguarding values in practice.</li> <li>Qualifications and NESA accreditation to teach English (Stage 4–6) with approval to teach in NSW.</li> <li>Demonstrated excellence as a classroom practitioner with expert knowledge of English curriculum, assessment and pedagogy.</li> <li>Proven experience leading and developing teams, with the ability to build a culture of high expectations, professional growth and accountability.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience leading curriculum development, implementation and review.</li> <li>Strong understanding of evidence-informed teaching practice and the ability to use student achievement data to drive improvement.</li> <li>Demonstrated capacity to lead strategic initiatives, manage change effectively and build staff capability.</li> <li>Exceptional communication, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.</li> <li>A commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and professional accountability.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Highly Desirable</strong></p> <ul> <li>Postgraduate qualifications in Education, Leadership or a related discipline.</li> <li>Experience facilitating professional learning and mentoring teachers.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Why Join Us?</strong></p> <p>At St Patrick's College, you will join a thriving Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, educating more than 1,630 boys across Years 5–12.</p> <p>The English Department plays a central role in developing confident communicators, critical thinkers and capable learners through a rich and rigorous curriculum.
