Secondary Education Assistant – Outdoor Education

The successful applicant will work closely with the Outdoor Education teacher to support the preparation, administration and delivery of weekly excursions, outdoor learning activities and camps. The role will also include classroom-based Education Assistant support within the Secondary School.

<p><strong>About the role</strong></p>
<p>HillSide Christian College is seeking a Secondary Education Assistant with a strong interest in, and practical competence within, Outdoor Education programs.</p>
<p>The successful applicant will work closely with the Outdoor Education teacher to support the preparation, administration and delivery of weekly excursions, outdoor learning activities and camps. The role will also include classroom-based Education Assistant support within the Secondary School.</p>
<p>This position is initially offered as a fixed-term contract for 2026.</p>
<p><strong>Work Schedule:</strong> Monday, Wednesday and Thursday<br><strong>Full-Time Equivalent:</strong> 0.6 FTE</p>
<p>Subject to the successful completion of a probationary period, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be offered an additional one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of conversion to ongoing status.</p>
<p>Salary will be based on the College’s Education Assistants Pay Scale, which is above the Award rate under MA00076 and negotiable according to qualifications and experience. Additional paid leave is granted during school vacation periods, and an overnight camp allowance will apply.</p>
<p>Key Responsibilities</p>
<p><strong>Outdoor Education Support — Core Component</strong></p>
<p>The successful applicant will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Attend and assist with weekly Outdoor Education excursions.</li>
<li>Assist in preparing, checking and transporting equipment for weekly excursions.</li>
<li>Attend and actively assist with Outdoor Education camps throughout the year.</li>
<li>Support hiking, canoeing, water-based and other outdoor expedition activities, where applicable.</li>
<li>Assist with booking accommodation, transport and other services required for Outdoor Education camps and excursions.</li>
<li>Make enquiries and liaise with external providers as required.</li>
<li>Order camp provisions and materials required for classroom and outdoor activities.</li>
<li>Maintain Outdoor Education equipment and ensure it is stored safely and appropriately.</li>
<li>Maintain an organised and functional Outdoor Education storeroom.</li>
<li>Complete administrative responsibilities, including purchase orders, bookings and expense reports.</li>
<li>Support staff in maintaining safe, well-organised and purposeful outdoor learning environments.</li>
<li>Model resilience, teamwork, responsibility and servant leadership to students.</li>
</ul>
<p>Confidence and competence in practical outdoor environments are essential.</p>
<p>Experience in hiking, canoeing, outdoor logistics, camp organisation or similar contexts will be highly regarded.</p>
<p><strong>Secondary Classroom Support — Supporting Component</strong></p>
<p>In addition to their Outdoor Education responsibilities, the Education Assistant will:</p>
<ul>
<li>Support teaching staff in delivering curriculum across practical and core learning areas.</li>
<li>Assist students in individual and small-group learning contexts.</li>
<li>Support student engagement, learning and wellbeing.</li>
<li>Contribute positively to a collaborative Secondary School team environment.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Selection Criteria</strong></p>
<p>The successful applicant must hold, or be willing and able to obtain:</p>
<ul>
<li>A Light Rigid or Medium Rigid driver’s licence.</li>
<li>A current First Aid qualification.</li>
<li>A Community Surf Rescue Certificate.</li>
<li>A current Working with Children Check.</li>
<li>A current National Police Clearance.</li>
</ul>
<p>Successful applicants must be practising evangelical Christians who are able to demonstrate and work within the College’s Christian framework.</p>
<p>Appointment to the position will be dependent upon the successful applicant accepting the College’s Code of Conduct, including its Statement of Faith, and meeting all compliance requirements. Education Assistants are expected to support teaching and learning from a Christian worldview.</p>
<p>The successful applicant will also be required to provide the following documents when requested:</p>

<li>A birth certificate, passport, Visa Grant Notice or VEVO documentation demonstrating Australian citizenship, permanent residency or unrestricted rights to work in Australia.</li>
<li>Photographic identification.</li>
<li>Copies of all relevant qualifications.</li>
<li>Any other compliance documentation requested by the College.</li>
