In 2026, Sydney Catholic Schools opened a Specialist Support Class on the St Therese's Catholic School site. This class provides personalised learning opportunities for students with complex disabilities in a small, well-resourced setting within our welcoming Catholic community.<br><br><strong>About the Role</strong><br><br>
As a Speech Pathologist, you will work collaboratively with Specialist Support teaching staff to build their capacity to meet the learning needs of students with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) through professional advice, consultation, co-teaching, planning and targeted professional learning that empowers the Specialist Support Class team. This is a two day per week position during school term time.<br><br>
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p>
<ul>
<li>collaborating with the teaching team to select evidence based interventions to enhance speech, language, communication and literacy development</li>
<li>contributing to student goals and Personalised Plans with a focus on SLCN</li>
<li>liaising with external therapy teams to inform planning and enhance student outcomes</li>
<li>maintaining currency with SLCN research and applying evidence-based practice to intervention decisions.</li>
<li>collaborating with the teaching team at the point of curriculum / lesson planning to ensure students with SLCN are supported in their access to learning</li>
<li>developing and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the NSW Curriculum and Syllabuses to effectively support teaching and learning</li>
<li>designing and delivering tailored professional learning in partnership with the Complex Communication Support Team Speech Pathologist/s</li>
<li>strengthening teachers' capacity to effectively integrate the use of assistive technologies, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)</li>
<li>building teacher capability to use sustainable adjustments and interventions that support students' speech, language and communication needs when onsite support is not available</li>
<li>planning and evaluating strategically to initiate, implement and review student progress in language and communication development</li>
<li>conducting screening assessments and evaluating student progress to inform next steps.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>About You</strong><br><br>
To thrive in this role, you will possess:</p>
<ul>
<li>a degree qualification in Speech Pathology and membership with Speech Pathology Australia</li>
<li>a minimum of five years' post qualification experience, including working with children with complex disabilities, including Complex Communication Needs and AAC users</li>
<li>strong knowledge of AAC and demonstrated experience with Key Word Sign and a range of communication tools</li>
<li>the ability to analyse assessment and medical data to inform decisions and recommendations</li>
<li>experience working in a collaborative service delivery model with exposure to schools or educational settings</li>
<li>a high level of professionalism and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential information</li>
<li>a willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.</li>
</ul>
<p>Desirable:</p>
<ul>
<li>a current drivers license and access to a car</li>
<li>knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems.</li>
