We are seeking an exceptional educational leader to join us as Head of Department – English from Term 1 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly capable educator to lead a faculty at the centre of the school’s academic life and make a meaningful contribution to Shore’s continued pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning.</p>
<p>The English Faculty plays a central role in developing students’ critical thinking, communication and appreciation of literature. The Head of Department – English will lead a dynamic and committed team responsible for the delivery of English from Stage 4 through to HSC, ensuring outstanding teaching, strong academic outcomes and a culture of intellectual curiosity, rigour and growth.</p>
<p><strong>Employment Terms:</strong></p>
<p>This is a full-time permanent teaching position, with the Head of Department, English leadership appointment offered for an initial five-year term. Leadership appointments at Shore are reviewed periodically to ensure they continue to support the evolving needs of the school, the faculty and our students. This structure offers the successful applicant the security of a permanent teaching role, together with the opportunity to make a significant leadership contribution over a defined term.</p>
<p><strong>A little bit about the role:</strong></p>
<p>The Head of Department – English will bring a strong track record of teaching English to HSC level together with demonstrated leadership capability. The successful applicant will be a highly effective classroom practitioner who models excellent pedagogy, leads with credibility and inspires high standards of teaching and learning across the faculty.</p>
<p>The role requires a leader who can build trust, develop people and contribute strategically to the school’s academic programme. You will lead the continued development of a rigorous and engaging English curriculum aligned with NESA requirements, while fostering a faculty culture marked by collaboration, professional growth and a shared commitment to student success.</p>
<p><strong>To be successful, you will:</strong></p>

<li>Be an experienced and highly effective English teacher with the ability to teach to HSC level</li>
<li>Demonstrate strong leadership capability and the ability to build a collaborative, high-performing team</li>
<li>Model excellent pedagogy and classroom practice and inspire a love of learning in students</li>
<li>Have a strong understanding of curriculum development and NESA requirements</li>
<li>Bring strategic thinking, sound judgement and strong organisational skills</li>
<li>Communicate confidently and build positive relationships with students, staff and parents</li>
