At Emmaus, we are committed to high impact teaching and learning both in and beyond the classroom, with all environments intentionally supporting engagement, excellence and meaningful learning experiences.</p> <p><strong>Role Purpose</strong></p> <p>The Maintenance Officer plays a vital role in supporting the mission and daily operations of Emmaus Catholic Primary School by ensuring that the school’s buildings, facilities and grounds are safe, functional and well-presented.<br> This position contributes to creating an environment that reflects our commitment to excellence, care and stewardship, supporting high-quality teaching and learning.<br> This is a hands-on role suited to an individual who takes pride in their work, enjoys practical tasks and is committed to maintaining high standards across all aspects of the school environment.</p> <p>We may begin interviewing before the closing date for suitable applicants.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p> <p>Responsibilities may include:</p> <ul> <li>Maintaining gardens, landscaped areas and outdoor learning spaces across the school, including mowing, edging, pruning and waste removal</li> <li>Operating groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, blowers and brush cutters safely and effectively</li> <li>Performing routine maintenance tasks and minor building repairs (e.g. carpentry, painting and basic repairs within competency)</li> <li>Assisting with preventative maintenance programs and regular inspections of buildings and facilities</li> <li>Identifying, reporting and responding to maintenance issues, hazards or infrastructure concerns</li> <li>Supporting the coordination and supervision of external contractors when required</li> <li>Assisting with furniture movement, event setup and general operational support, including school events and functions</li> <li>Ensuring the school environment is clean, safe and well-presented at all times</li> <li>Supporting essential services checks (e.g. exits, lighting, general safety compliance)</li> <li>Maintaining equipment and tools in a safe and serviceable condition</li> <li>Contributing to the upkeep of spaces that support contemporary learning environments</li> <li>Maintaining records of maintenance tasks and reporting ongoing or major issues</li> </ul> <p><strong>About You</strong></p> <p>The successful candidate will demonstrate:</p> <ul> <li>Experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, facilities or a similar hands-on role</li> <li>Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment and tools</li> <li>Strong practical and problem-solving skills</li> <li>A proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance needs</li> <li>Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team</li> <li>A strong commitment to Work Health and Safety practices</li> <li>Reliability, flexibility and a strong work ethic</li> <li>Effective communication skills when working with staff, contractors and the school community</li> </ul> <p><strong>Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Current Working With Children Check (Victoria) or willingness to obtain</li> <li>National Police Check</li> <li>Capacity to perform manual and outdoor work</li> <li>Strong attention to safety, detail and presentation</li> <li>Commitment to workplace health and safety practices and school compliance requirements</li> </ul> <p><strong>Desirable</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience working within a school or educational environment</li> <li>Basic trade or maintenance skills across a range of areas</li> <li>Understanding of, and commitment to, the ethos and mission of a Catholic school</li> </ul> <p><strong>Commitment to Child Safety</strong></p> <p>Emmaus Catholic Primary School is committed to the safety, wellbeing and protection of all children in our care.
