<p><strong>General Expectations</strong></p> <p>NT Christian Schools is a recognised school system and the System Office plays a key role in ensuring that teaching and learning and corporate services are all managed for our school system as efficiently and effectively as possible.</p> <p>The relationship between our staff and students is nevertheless uppermost in our minds, as we endeavour to provide the best corporate services possible to allow that relationship to flourish and for school communities to live out our mission and values.</p> <p>The system office also plays a key role in relationship building and promotion to government departments, members of parliament and national associations such as CEN.</p> <p>The Facilities team at NT Christian Schools strives to ensure the physical infrastructure of NT Christian Schools is problem-free and safe, to enable our staff to succeed under the best possible working conditions. We go above and beyond to plan, coordinate, and act on installations, refurbishments, repairs, equipment needs, supplies and grounds maintenance support to meet and exceed health and safety standards.</p> <p>These responsibilities and duties are underpinned by expectations of generosity, openness, teamwork, effectiveness, efficiency, attention to detail, pleasant working relationships and maintenance of an effective, Christ-centred and safe work environment.</p> <p><strong>Primary role</strong></p> <p>The central roles of the Grounds and maintenance Officer are to</p> <p>1. Assist in the maintenance of the college grounds, buildings and general tools.</p> <p>2. Help ensure the infrastructure of the college is maintained in good condition and meets OH&amp;S safety requirements.</p> <p>This requires the highest commitment to the Lord, His Word and to schooling from a distinctively Christian perspective and directed by parents and other supportive Christian people through the organisation.</p> <p>The Grounds and Maintenance Assistant will report to the Grounds and Maintenance Manager.</p> <p><strong>Key Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>To effectively witness to the beliefs articulated in the Company’s Policies of NT Christian Schools by modelling an authentic life of faith lived in accordance with those beliefs, and</li> <li>with general Christian principles.</li> <li>To contribute to the spiritual life of the school by leading or otherwise assisting in the conduct of religious services and otherwise engaging in religious practices and observances (including, but not limited to, leading prayers or devotions and sharing testimonies).</li> <li>Demonstrate excellent communication skills, written and verbal.</li> <li><strong>• </strong>Maintain the capacity to be an active team member and work collaboratively.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Grounds</strong></p> <ul> <li>General gardening duties.</li> <li>Mowing, edging, blowing, hedging and tree trimming.</li> <li>Maintenance and use of small machinery.</li> <li>Maintenance &amp; installation of irrigation systems.</li> <li>Landscaping and project work, drainage.</li> <li>Handling and use of garden, pest and cleaning chemicals, ensuring OH&amp;S.</li> <li>Rubbish removal and basic cleaning.</li> <li>Window repairs to louvers, frames, blades and fly screens etc.</li> <li>Door hanging, repairs and locks.</li> <li>Wear and tear to buildings, fittings and furniture repairs.</li> <li>Minor paintwork.</li> <li>Minor plumbing as permitted by law, training and skill level.</li> <li>Pressure cleaning.</li> <li>Removal and fixing of furniture e.g. whiteboards &amp; TV’s etc.</li> <li>Working at heights.</li> <li>Working in ceiling cavities.</li> <li>Event work e.g. performances and carnivals.</li> <li>Any other duties as requested by the G&amp;M Manager.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Security</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ensure security of buildings is actioned.</li> <li>Advise and action best security solutions as required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Occupational Health and Safety</strong></p> <ul> <li>Observation of grounds and buildings for potential maintenance items.</li> <li>Identify possible hazards.</li> <li>Develop plans and action to ensure a dangerous area is made safe.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Other</strong></p> <ul> <li>Assist each campus with functions as required.</li> <li>Assist staff with projects as appropriate.</li> <li>Assist staff with projects as directed by Grounds and Maintenance manager.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Selection criteria</strong></p> <p><i><strong>Essential:</strong></i></p> <ul> <li>A committed Christian actively involved in your local church.</li> <li>Prove an ability to effectively model Christian values as expressed in the Policies and Procedures of NT Christian Schools and to give an authentic witness to those values.</li> <li>Demonstrate or be willing to develop, the ability to draw upon the beliefs articulated in the Policies and Procedures of NT Christian Schools to prepare an environment and culture of biblical perspective enhancing significant outcomes for students.</li> <li>Experience with the use of general maintenance equipment.</li> <li>A solid understanding of OHS issues and procedures.</li> <li>Basic ‘handyman’ skills and knowledge.</li> <li>Physical fitness to meet the minimum requirements of the job.</li> <li>Ability to pace oneself in demanding work and environmental conditions.</li> <li>Experience with mowers and chainsaws would be an advantage.</li> <li>Able to apply and follow risk assessments.</li> </ul> <p><i><strong>Desirable:</strong></i></p> <ul> <li>Experience working in a school setting.</li> <li>Relevant qualifications may be advantageous.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Further Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Must hold a valid Working with Children (Ochre) Card.</li> <li>Must have a valid NT police check within the last 12 months, or invoice of order for one.</li> <li>Must hold a current NT Driver’s License.</li> <li>Must hold a current First Aide Certificate or a willingness to obtain.</li> </ul> <p>Additional Application Instructions</p> <p>To apply please visit our website and submit an application.
