<p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Utility Officer</strong></p> <p><strong>Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School (Deloraine, TAS)</strong></p> <p><strong>Part-time - 0.45 FTE (17 hours per week) - Ongoing - Start ASAP</strong></p> <p>Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School is a warm and vibrant regional school located in Deloraine, nurturing approximately 100 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. As part of Catholic Education Tasmania (CET), we are committed to developing the whole child—academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally—through a strong partnership with families and our wider community.</p> <p>We are seeking a dedicated and skilled <strong>Utility Officer</strong> to join our team and help maintain a safe, welcoming, and well‑functioning school environment that supports high‑quality learning for all students.</p> <p><strong>About the Role</strong></p> <p>The Utility Officer plays a vital role in ensuring our school grounds, buildings, and facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained. This position requires a hands‑on, proactive individual with trade-level skills who can coordinate maintenance tasks, supervise others, and respond effectively to daily operational needs.</p> <p>The successful applicant will support the Catholic Identity and Evangelising Mission of the school and work collaboratively with staff, contractors, volunteers, and the broader school community.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities include:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Coordinating daily building and grounds maintenance, including cleaning tasks, rubbish removal, and minor repairs.</li> <li>Overseeing turf care, playground upkeep, and replenishment of soft fall.</li> <li>Planning and undertaking specialised maintenance tasks and small building projects.</li> <li>Maintaining tools, equipment, and chemical storage in line with safety standards.</li> <li>Setting up furniture and equipment for school events and sporting activities.</li> <li>Managing daily security routines, including unlocking/locking buildings.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Required Skills, Experience and Attributes</strong></p> <p>We are looking for someone who can:</p> <ul> <li>Work independently with minimal supervision.</li> <li>Communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.</li> <li>Prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.</li> <li>Apply initiative and problem‑solve constructively.</li> <li>Coordinate and supervise others confidently.</li> <li>Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.</li> <li>Demonstrate flexibility, dependability, and sound judgement.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications &amp; Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Valid Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP).</li> <li>Current and satisfactory National Police Criminal History Check.</li> <li>Current Tasmanian driver’s licence.</li> <li>Trade Certificate or Certificate III (or relevant experience).</li> </ul> <p><strong>Why Join Our Lady of Mercy?</strong></p> <ul> <li>Be part of a welcoming, mission‑driven school community</li> <li>Contribute to meaningful work that supports students, families, and staff</li> <li>A beautiful regional setting, with a collaborative and supportive staff culture.</li> <li>Enjoy a role with variety, autonomy, and opportunities to make a real impact</li> </ul> <p>Catholic Education Tasmania and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School are committed to supporting the rights of children and young people and providing a safe and supportive environment for them.
