The Head of Student Support is a critical member of the Senior Executive Team at Galilee School. The Head of Student Support engages extensively across the community to advocate for & support the young people at Galilee School.

<p>Galilee School is seeking a <strong>caring, resilient and values driven leader</strong> to head its Student Support program. This is a <strong>rare opportunity</strong> to join the school during an exciting period of growth.</p> <p>The <strong>Head of Student Support</strong> is a key leadership role, supporting students with <strong>complex educational, social and mental health needs</strong> and helping them re‑engage with learning and build positive futures.</p> <p>Working closely with the <strong>Head of Teaching and Learning</strong> and the <strong>Principal</strong>, you will lead the planning and delivery of high-quality case management and student support, while contributing to the school’s strategic direction.</p> <p>You will supervise and mentor a dedicated team of youth support workers and work collaboratively with families, service providers and stakeholders. This role requires confidence, organisation and compassion, with the ability to <strong>balance strong boundaries with genuine care</strong> and lead effectively through challenging situations.</p> <p>The position works with a wide range of service providers and stakeholders, often involving picking up the phone and having sensitive and confidential conversations. You’ll connect the dots between the classroom, home and community, helping students re-engage with their learning and develop social and emotional skills to enjoy a positive future. Our surplus for purpose philosophy enables us to provide valuable community support services to seniors, people with a disability and the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of our community.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>About Galilee School&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>Communities at Work, Galilee School is a registered, independent secondary school designed specifically for disengaged and vulnerable young people in years 7-12 in the ACT and surrounding areas for whom the mainstream schooling environment has struggled to deliver positive learning outcomes. Galilee School offers a supportive and flexible learning program that aims to meet the individual needs of students.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>About the role&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong><br> The Head of Student Support is a critical member of the Senior Executive Team at Galilee School. The Head of Student Support works very closely with the Head of Teaching and Learning to ensure that the dual emphasis of the school, namely each young person's academic journey and their social and emotional journey, are given appropriate focus and support.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>The Head of Student Support leads the Student Support Team within Galilee School comprising both Youth Workers and a School Chaplain.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p>The Head of Student Support engages extensively across the community to advocate for and support the young people at Galilee School in their dealings with other areas of the community engaged in a young person's life journey. The Head of Student Support is often the key contact within the school for engagement with enrolled student's families and carers.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Key requirements&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Maintain current ‘Working with Vulnerable People’ registration</li> <li>Qualifications and experience in Youth Work case management or similar.</li> <li>Relevant recent experience in a leadership and management position(s) within a similar context.</li> <li>Willingness to adhere to and work within the strategic vision, direction, and philosophy of the organisation.</li> <li>A passion and drive and demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable, “at-risk” and disadvantaged young people.</li> <li>Ability to facilitate a case management process sensitively and effectively with a range of diverse vulnerable and ‘at risk’ clients, including youth and families who have complex issues or needs and require a range of support services.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience and skills of conflict resolution and ability to build influential and supportive relationships with young people and their families.</li> <li>Well-developed communication skills (both oral and written), including liaison, negotiation, motivational, case planning, reporting, and the development and delivery of youth focused programs.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability and experience in applying and incorporating best practice research to the daily operation of programs, preparation of funding submission and program and policy development.</li> <li>High level interpersonal skills and cooperative work practices and the ability to lead and manage a positive and cohesive team</li> <li>Possession of high level organisational, planning and time management skills.&nbsp; Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a close team.</li> <li>The ability to participate in physical demonstration of tasks and physical activities as well as exposure to environments and varying terrains.</li> <li>Current Driver’s Licence and ability to drive vehicles with both manual and automatic transmissions.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Benefits</strong></p> <ul> <li>Do good, feel good with Communities at Work</li> <li>Healthy activity reimbursements</li> <li>Employer funded training opportunities</li> <li>Salary packaging options available</li> </ul> <p><strong>How to Apply</strong></p> <p>Click on the link in this advertisement or contact the People, Culture and Wellness Team on 02 6293 6545 for the full position description.
