Language and Cultural Centre Coordinator

The Language and Cultural Centre coordinator is primarily responsible for developing and implementing Indigenous Language and Cultural Programs from Transition Years to Year 10. You will be working with an experienced team of Language Teachers proficient in the preparation and delivery of language, culture and on Country Programs in Luritja in accordance with the Northern Territory indigenous language and Culture frameworks.

<p><strong>Context statement</strong></p>
<p>Yipirinya School is an independent, Indigenous community school in Alice Springs controlled by an Indigenous School Council and catering for Indigenous students from the nearby community and outstations. The school has excellent, purpose-built classrooms, and support facilities for all teachers. All classroom teachers currently have the support of Indigenous assistant teachers. The school offers a two-way learning approach (bi-lingual & bi-cultural) to education and language/culture teachers provide additional specialist support when children engage with language classes each day. Relationships-based learning, and school wide positive behaviour support are significant improvement priorities at the school.</p>
<p><strong>Key duties and responsibilities</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Demonstrated experience in curriculum development across Indigenous Language and Culture programs (Transition – Year 10).</li>
<li>Strong instructional leadership skills, with the ability to mentor, coach and build teacher capability.</li>
<li>Knowledge of Aboriginal pedagogies and best-practice teaching methods, including explicit instruction and frameworks such as <i>Eight Ways Aboriginal Learning</i>.</li>
<li>Experience working with Aboriginal educators, including the ability to support, mentor and manage Aboriginal teachers and Teaching Assistants.</li>
<li>High-level understanding of Central Australian languages, cultures and sociolinguistic contexts, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.</li>
<li>Experience in assessment, reporting and program evaluation in an educational setting.</li>
<li>Proven ability to develop high-quality learning resources, including collaboration with Literacy Production Centre (LPC) staff in text creation, editing and checking.</li>
<li>Strong organisational and coordination skills, including planning and leading Learning on Country programs, managing risk assessments, and preparing resources.</li>
<li>High-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching teams, community members and leadership.</li>
<li>Commitment to ongoing professional learning, meeting annual professional development requirements.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Selection criteria</strong></p>
<p><strong>Essential</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Proficiency or working knowledge of Western Arrernte, Central Arrernte, Warlpiri or Luritja.</li>
<li>Experience teaching in bilingual or bicultural education settings.</li>
<li>Experience working in remote or Central Australian school contexts.</li>
<li>Qualifications in Education, Linguistics, Indigenous Studies or related fields.</li>
</ul>
