Deputy Principal – Tiwi College (NT)
Lead operations, wellbeing, and teaching across a unique remote Indigenous boarding school on Melville Island. This senior leadership role supports culturally responsive education, student engagement, and strong community partnerships while overseeing curriculum, inclusive education, staff leadership, and college operations.
<p>Tiwi College is a Primary and Secondary boarding College located on Melville Island in the Northern Territory. The College serves a vibrant Tiwi community and is committed to culturally responsive education, strong student wellbeing, and improved academic and life outcomes for young people in a remote Indigenous context.<br><br>
Tiwi College is seeking a highly capable Deputy Principal to join the leadership team. Creativity, flexibility, resilience, and vision are essential characteristics for this role, along with a strong understanding of remote Indigenous education and a commitment to working in partnership with Tiwi staff and Traditional Owners.</p>

<p><strong>Role Purpose</strong></p>
<p>The Deputy Principal is responsible for overseeing the operations of the College providing strategic and operational support to the principal. The role includes leadership and overseeing of teaching, administration, boarding and support staff, responsibility for student wellbeing and inclusive education and of literacy, numeracy, pathways, and student engagement programs.</p>
<p><strong>Key Areas of Responsibility:</strong><br><strong>Student Management & Engagement</strong></p>
<p><strong>•</strong> Manage and oversee the Wellbeing Coordinator and Family Group Home (FGH) Coordinator.<br>
• Ensure consistent implementation of student conduct and behaviour management practices across the college.<br>
• Oversee student attendance, wellbeing, and behaviour records.<br>
• Ensure coordination with external agencies supporting students.<br>
• Oversee student engagement initiatives in line with college policy.</p>
<p><strong>Administration & Operations</strong></p>
<p>• Oversee administration and operations staff to ensure accurate maintenance of student data and records across systems.<br>
• Oversee student travel logistics, including pickups and drop-offs.<br>
• Oversee compliance with Work Health & Safety policies and procedures.<br>
• Oversee First Aid and White Box protocols and audits.<br>
• Oversee delegated budgets in accordance with College and TEB requirements.<br>
• Oversee the coordination of timetables, duty rosters, meeting schedules, and assemblies.</p>
<p><strong>Instructional Leadership & Curriculum</strong></p>
<p>• Working closely with Curriculum Coordinator, oversee curriculum quality, implementation and review including curriculum mapping and reporting.<br>
• Oversee literacy, numeracy and intervention programs, including assessment and data analysis. Plus, the coordination of assessment programs including PAT and NAPLAN.<br>
• Support staff professional development aligned with AITSL standards.</p>
<p><strong>Inclusive Education</strong></p>
<p>• Lead inclusive education practices across the campus.<br>
• Coordinate personalised learning plans and individualised supports.<br>
• Liaise with families, staff and external specialists.<br>
• Ensure compliance with NCCD and relevant legislation.<br>
• Maintain accurate SEN data and reporting.</p>
<p><strong>Culture, Community & Communication</strong></p>
<p>• Work closely with Tiwi staff and Traditional Owners to strengthen College culture.<br>
• Support the development of Tiwi culture and language programs.<br>
• Ensure effective communication with parents, communities and stakeholders.<br>
• Represent the College professionally within the community and with external partners.</p>
<p><strong>Professional Growth & Leadership</strong></p>
<p>• Model professional, ethical and responsible behaviour.<br>
• Mentor and support teaching and support staff.<br>
• Assist with recruitment, induction, appraisal and professional learning.<br>

<p><strong>Other Duties</strong></p>
<p>• Participate in student transport, supervision and relief teaching as required.<br>
• Undertake additional duties as directed by the Principal or Tiwi Education Board.</p>
