Maintenance and Grounds Officer

Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School is seeking a dynamic and passionate Maintenance and Grounds Officer to join our warm and committed staff team.

<p>The Maintenance and Grounds Officer is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance and functionality of the school's facilities, including classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces. This role involves a variety of tasks, from routine maintenance and repairs to emergency response and groundskeeping duties. The Maintenance and Grounds Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the overall safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the school environment.</p>

<p><strong>Responsibilities</strong><br>
</p>
<p>• Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of school facilities.</p>
<p>• Respond promptly to emergency repair requests, such as leaks, power outages, or other urgent issues, to minimise disruption to daily operations.</p>
<p>• Maintain the school grounds by mowing lawns, planting and trimming shrubs and trees, spreading fertilizers and herbicides, weeding and removing debris to uphold a clean and attractive outdoor environment.</p>
<p>• Assist with daily refuse collection, security checks of buildings, and setting up of furniture and equipment for special functions.</p>
<p>• Conduct minor repairs to building structures, including windows, doors, locks, and other fixtures, to address wear and tear and ensure the safety and security of the school community.</p>
<p>• Perform painting and minor refurbishments as needed to maintain a fresh and aesthetically pleasing appearance throughout the school.</p>
<p>• Maintain and repair equipment used in the school, such as kitchen appliances and recreational equipment, to support daily activities and programs.</p>
<p>• Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify potential safety hazards and address them promptly to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the school community.</p>
<p>• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs performed, and maintenance schedules, to track progress and ensure accountability.</p>
<p>• Coordinate with other staff members, including cleaning staff, leadership team, office staff, and teachers, to address maintenance issues and support the overall operation of the school facilities.</p>
<p>• Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations and school policies in all maintenance activities to uphold the highest standards of safety and quality.</p>
<p>• Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialised maintenance tasks that cannot be handled internally, ensuring timely and cost-effective service delivery.</p>
<p>• Any tasks as requested by a member of the School Leadership team or Principal.</p>

<p><strong>Required Competencies and Skills (Key Selection Criteria)</strong></p>
<p>The Key Selection Criteria that will be used to select the successful applicant include:</p>
<p>• Proven experience in building maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping, preferably in a school or similar institutional setting.</p>
<p>• Strong technical skills in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and other maintenance disciplines.</p>
<p>• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.</p>
<p>• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail to effectively identify and resolve maintenance issues.</p>
<p>• Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with staff, students, and external contractors.</p>
<p>• Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform manual labour as required in the course of maintenance duties.</p>
<p>• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed for emergency maintenance response.</p>
<p>• Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.</p>
