St John's Catholic College Darwin is calling for applications for the position of Pastoral Leader - Sports Coordinator (Tier 1). Please note this is a three (3) year contracted position of responsibility (POR) with the POR commencing the beginning of Term 2, 2026. Teaching position available from the beginning of the 2026 academic year.

<p>Catholic Education has a network of schools in both urban centres and remote communities. For teachers there are many opportunities in the Territory. We have 18 Catholic schools in the region - five colleges, seven primary schools, one flexible learning centre and five remote schools.</p>

<p><strong>Primary Objective: </strong></p>
<p>In consultation with the identified Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) member, and as a member of the Pastoral Care Team, coordinate the effective delivery of the Sports and Activities program including: Whole College Carnivals, Darwin Region School Sports and Other School Sport, House Cup activities, Sporting Schools Grants, and contribute as a middle leader to the Pastoral Care and Wellbeing program. </p>
<p><strong>The duties and responsibilities of this position are in addition to the employee’s primary role and responsibilities</strong></p>
<p><strong>Sports Coordinator Responsibilities:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Promote the SJ Sports Logo and Mascot (Eagles) to build identity, pride and spirit. </li>
<li>Attend Pastoral Care Team meetings and contribute as a middle leader to the PC&W program.</li>
<li>Ensure that the identified sports and activities operate in accordance with College and System policies and procedures. </li>
<li>Lead a team of staff to coordinate the annual Swimming, Athletics and Cross-Country carnivals and college participation in Gala Days and other School Sport. </li>
<li>Actively work to build and maintain collaborative and beneficial partnerships with School Sport NT, Royal Life Saving Australia, other Catholic Schools, and other peak sporting organisations for the coordination the safe sports and activities program. </li>
<li>Apply for grants related to Sport and Activities, such as Sporting Schools and Sports Vouchers, and implement programs as per grant requirements. </li>
<li>Provide leadership and support (administration and logistics) to staff coordinating identified sports and activities.</li>
<li>Coordinate a team of staff to implement a safe and engaging House Cup program that builds College / House spirit and fosters personal development.</li>
<li>Oversee and coordinate the College Gym. </li>
<li>Coordinate the distribution and collection of sports uniforms to maintain stock levels. </li>
<li>Promote student and staff engagement in the sports and activities program to promote positive relationships and healthy living.</li>
<li>In collaboration with the identified members of the SLT, coordinate the purchase of uniforms and equipment related to the operation of sports, carnivals and activities. </li>
<li>Manage a small budget related to carnivals and sports.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Other Responsibilities: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Keep staff informed of approved changes to schedule for students with regards to the Sports Programs and Whole College Carnivals.</li>
<li>Coordinate relevant professional learning opportunities for staff in the area of the safe provision of an engaging sports program. </li>
<li>Contribute regular articles informing and promoting the Sports Programs and activities to the College community (newsletter, year book and social media).</li>
<li>Any other duties as directed by the identified member of the Strategic Leadership Team. </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Selection Criteria:</strong></p>
<p><strong>Essential:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Current Northern Territory Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).</li>
<li>Understanding of and the willingness to support and contribute to the Catholic ethos of the College. </li>
<li>Registered Teacher of the Northern Territory.</li>
<li>Highly organised and competent teacher with the capacity and demonstrated readiness to take on a POR. </li>
<li>Highly organised operator with the capacity to coordinate a team for the safe and successful implementation of College Carnivals and School Sports.</li>
<li>Holder of, or willingness to acquire relevant qualifications / permits, including: Senior First Aid, Bronze Medallion, Light Rigid Licence and qualifications associated with the safe supervision of students in a gymnasium. </li>
<li>Sound knowledge of a range of sports.</li>
