<p>The <strong>full time equivalent annual salary</strong> (School Assistant, Level 2 Step 1) is $75,596 however,<strong> take-home salary and annual leave will both be pro-rated according to the hours and weeks worked. Maximum hours are 32.5 hours per week, 40 weeks per year i.e. this role is required during school term time only.</strong></p> <p><strong>Role Overview</strong></p> <p>Primary Learning Support Assistants at Orana work under the guidance and direction of the Primary Inclusive Education Coordinator. Assistants are allocated to various classes to support the classroom teacher in catering for the needs of students with an identified disability or other additional needs.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Duties</strong></p> <p>As a <strong>Learning Support Assistant</strong> you will:</p> <ul> <li>Provide classroom support to the Classroom Teacher and assist with special needs.</li> <li>Accompany children to the bus (Kindergarten) and providing general mobility assistance as required</li> <li>Physical management e.g. personal care and hygiene of students with special needs if required.</li> <li>Reinforce skills following lessons</li> <li>Reinforce class rules</li> <li>Attend general staff meetings as needed.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Kindergarten Assistants</strong> also:</p> <ul> <li>Prepare for activities such as cooking, domestic work, and artistic as well as outdoor activities and rest times</li> <li>Tidy and clean classrooms and equipment as needed</li> <li>Playground supervision, tidying away of equipment and gardening</li> <li>Attend to asthma and anaphylaxis, safe food handling, child protection training as required by legislation and notified by the Deputy Principal, Primary School.</li> <li>Prepare for festivals (i.e. Winter festival, end of year Christmas festival).</li> </ul> <p><strong>Assistants in Classes 1 – 6</strong> will also:</p> <ul> <li>Set up teaching aids e.g. locating and gathering materials; modifying resources (under teacher direction).&nbsp;</li> <li>Test, assess and observe students as requested by the Inclusive Education Coordinator and/or teachers.&nbsp;</li> <li>Attend student support meetings, participate in professional development activities and/or child studies as needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Appraise and recommend for purchase appropriate learning support teaching materials in consultation with other members of the Inclusive Education Team.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assist with administrative tasks such as funding applications and data collection as requested.&nbsp;</li> <li>Support in specialist subject areas (under teacher direction).&nbsp;</li> <li>Support in the implementation of teaching strategies listed in the Individual Learning Plans (ILPs)</li> <li>Assist in the implementation of ILPs</li> <li>Observations and feedback to teachers on students to assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the ILP</li> <li>Assist in positive behaviour support programs in line with ILP goals.&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p><strong>Applicant Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Minimum Certificate III in Education Support or other relevant qualification&nbsp;</li> <li>First Aid Certificate (desirable)&nbsp;</li> <li>ACT Working with Vulnerable People registration</li> <li>Eligibility to work in Australia, unrestricted.</li> <li>Experience in learning support</li> <li>Ability to work with children with special needs&nbsp;</li> <li>An interest in and willingness to work with the Steiner Childhood philosophy and child development&nbsp;</li> <li>The ability to appropriately role model for students and understand duty of care</li> <li>The ability to work in a professional and collegial manner with colleagues</li> <li>Good communication and conflict resolution skills&nbsp;</li> <li>The ability to work under direction and be flexible, punctual, calm and patient&nbsp;</li> <li>The ability to maintain confidentiality</li> <li>The ability to support professional relationships with the parents</li> <li>The ability to practice an appropriate standard of hygiene and safe food handling and maintain a clean, safe and orderly environment.</li> </ul> <p><strong>What we offer</strong></p> <ul> <li>Salary sacrificing&nbsp;</li> <li>Free onsite parking</li> <li>Discounted school fees for eligible employees</li> <li>Our commitment to maintaining a physically and psychosocially safe environment for all staff, students and visitors to the school.</li> <li>We respect and value your right to disconnect outside of work hours for a better work/life balance.</li> <li>Salary and conditions of employment are determined by the <i><strong>Independent Schools ACT (Professional and Operational Staff) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025.</strong></i></li> </ul> <p>There is a 6-month probationary period.</p> <p><strong>To Apply</strong></p> <p>Please apply directly through SEEK via the ‘Quick Apply’ link.
