An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Officer (LSO) to join our wonderful team at St Peter’s School. LSOs work in partnership with teachers to provide assistance to students with diverse learning needs to optimise student learning outcomes. The role requires fulltime availability (5 days per week, hours to be discussed)

<p><strong>Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate the following:</strong></p> <ol> <li><strong>Behaviour Management Expertise</strong> <ul> <li>Using proven strategies for de-escalation and conflict resolution</li> <li>Experience in implementing positive behaviour support plans</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Patience and Emotional Resilience</strong> <ul> <li>Ability to remain calm, composed, and supportive under pressure</li> <li>High tolerance and understanding of behavioural supports</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Strong Communication Skills</strong> <ul> <li>Clear and effective communication with students and staff</li> <li>Ability to model positive language and social skills</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Empathy and Compassion</strong> <ul> <li>Genuine care for student wellbeing and development</li> <li>Understanding of trauma-informed practices</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Adaptability and Problem Solving</strong> <ul> <li>Flexibility to adjust strategies and support depending on student needs to engage in the learning</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Confidentiality and Professionalism</strong> <ul> <li>Discretion when dealing with sensitive student information</li> <li>Commitment to school policies and child safeguarding practices</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Academic Support Skills</strong> <ul> <li>Capacity to assist with literacy, numeracy, and other classroom tasks</li> <li>Encouraging student engagement and participation in learning</li> </ul></li> <li><strong>Organisational Skills</strong> <ul> <li>Maintaining records and behaviour logs where required with the support of the Learning Diversity Leader</li> <li>Following daily routines and schedules reliably&nbsp;</li> </ul></li> </ol> <p><strong>The successful applicant will also demonstrate the following:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Actively support and promote the values inherent in a Catholic School, by demonstrating an understanding of the ethos of a Catholic school and its mission;</li> <li>Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to legal and moral obligations relating to Child Safety Standards as set out in the Ministerial Order;</li> <li>Be highly professional in all aspects of the role and display proficiency in areas of organisation, written and interpersonal communication skills, ICT skills and be able to use initiative;</li> <li>Be able to give, receive and act on feedback;</li> <li>Demonstrate a preparedness to work flexibly and where required;</li> <li>Be able to use discretion and maintain confidentiality;</li> <li>Attend Parent Support Group (PSG) meetings when required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>MUST Have:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Current Working with Children Check</li> <li>Successful completion of National Criminal Police Record Check</li> <li>Certificate 3 or higher in Education Support</li> </ul>
