The Nurse and Administrative Assistant provides assistance to the College Administration by performing a range of nursing, first aid and administrative duties with a particular focus on the day to day operation of the Health Centre across the entire College, Prep to Year 12.

<p><strong>1 Context</strong></p>

Pacific has a seamless curriculum across Kindergarten to Year 12 with teams of teachers working across the four subgroups of the College. Staff are expected to learn collaboratively to contribute to a whole school approach as they lead learning in the Foundation College (Kindergarten-Year 2), Junior College (Years 3-5), Middle College (Years 6-9) and Senior College (Years 10-12).</p>
<p>Salary and related conditions are as per the current Queensland Lutheran Schools’ Single Enterprise Agreement.</p>

<p><strong>2 Role Description</strong></p>
<p>The Nurse and Administrative Assistant provides assistance to the College Administration by performing a range of nursing, first aid and administrative duties with a particular focus on the day to day operation of the Health Centre across the entire College, Prep to Year 12.</p>
<p>As a staff member within a Christian school the Nurse and Administrative Assistant will be expected to support and contribute to the growth of a strong Christian faith learning community through personal example and professional leadership. The Nurse and Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing professional and confidential management of health concerns and medical matters.</p>
<p>The Nurse and Administrative Assistant is part of the administrative team and is directly responsible to the Senior Executive Assistant and Office Manager and works in collaboration with the Heads of Outdoor Education and Sport.</p>
<p>As a regular point of contact between the College and parents, staff, students and community members, the Nurse and Administrative Assistant is expected to:</p>
<p><strong>Strengthening Lutheran Identity</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Support the Lutheran ethos of the College. This would include involvement in staff devotions and retreats.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Enhancing Excellence in Teaching and Learning</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Manage and operate the Health Centre including maintenance of medical registers, attending to health concerns, medical matters, accidents/incidents and first aid procedures.</li>
<li>Oversee and implement the College’s Workplace Heath and Safety requirements, as they pertain to the College’s First Aid Policy and Procedure.</li>
<li>Attend to phone, counter and digital enquiries from students, parents, staff and the community. Forwarding messages in a timely manner to the relevant personnel.</li>
<li>Provide medical kits and reports for staff in relation to incursions, excursions, sport, outdoor education and associated College events and activities.</li>
<li>Provide administrative assistance including data entry, report processing and the production of documents as required, including those required for Outdoor Education and sport activities.</li>
<li>Provide support to the P-5 Administrative Officer as required including covering during breaks and busy periods. Including attending to student absentees/arrivals as required. As well as participating as a positive team member within the administration team.</li>
</ul>

<li>Engage in ongoing professional learning to update knowledge and practice, targeted to professional needs and College priorities.</li>
<li>Contribute to professional discussion with colleagues in a range of forums to evaluate practice directed at improving professional knowledge and practice and the educational outcomes for students.</li>
<li>Engage in reflection, collaborative planning, monitoring and review.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Community Building</strong></p>
<p>The Nurse and Administrative Assistant is an important connection point for students, staff, families and community members and has an important role in the building of community through the following:</p>
<ul>
<li>Foster effective learning partnerships with students, staff, parents and members of the wider community.</li>
<li>Demonstrate responsiveness in all communications with parents/carers and staff, providing a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, parents and community members.</li>
<li>Adhere to the College Code of Conduct and act professionally at all times in dealing with students, staff, parents and members of the community.</li>
<li>Maintain a positive work environment through support of the administrative team members, flexibly adjusting to changing demands of the work environment. This would include the sharing of tasks.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Leading Effective Organisation and Management</strong></p>
<p>The Nurse and Administrative Assistant is expected to be able to work with minimum direction, provide accurate, timely administrative service in the following areas:</p>
<ul>
<li>Lead the organisation of the Health Centre and all medical practises within the College.</li>
<li>Provide reports and documentation to staff in relation to medical conditions of students for incursions, excursions, outdoor education, sport and other events, including maintaining and monitoring of first aid kits.</li>
<li>Maintain a stocktake of medical supplies and equipment and including the correct allocation, storage, replacement and ordering as required.</li>
<li>Confidentially manage student, staff and family data in a variety of data bases and software programs as required.</li>
<li>Produce College communication, including electronic communication to a high standard in keeping with the brand of the College, including letters and communication to staff, students and parents.</li>
<li>Provide administrative support within the administration team, including covering the P-5 Administrative Officer during busy times and covering breaks.</li>
<li>Provide training to staff in accordance with medical matters including training in the use of epipens and other medical equipment and response to various health conditions.</li>
<li>Have an awareness of personal health and wellbeing for themselves and their colleagues.</li>
<li>Adhere to the workplace health and safety requirements of the position.</li>
<li>Maintain high levels of confidentiality.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>3 Workplace Health and Safety</strong></p>
<p>Effective implementation of the School’s Workplace Health and Safety Manual requires the active involvement of all employees. All employees have an obligation to comply with statutory and organisational requirements, procedures and rules that are intended to protect the health and safety of persons at the workplace including the general public.</p>
<p>All Academic and Ancillary staff must:</p>
<ul>
<li>Perform work safely in accordance with the training (induction and annual) they have received and report substandard work conditions or practices.</li>
<li>Follow lawful written and verbal workplace health and safety instructions, including policies and procedures issued by managers and supervisors and observe all warning signs and notices.</li>
<li>Report all personal injuries and incidents immediately to the supervisor and appropriate School delegate.</li>
<li>Co-operate with and participate in all activities to make the work environment safe and healthy.</li>
<li>Maintain good housekeeping standards at all times.</li>
<li>Ask for specific instruction regarding the hazards associated with performing tasks which may not be completely familiar.</li>
<li>Wear clothing and footwear appropriate to their job and use all personal protective equipment specified and/or routinely expected for that job.</li>
<li>Operate specified plant and equipment, eg. motor vehicles, cranes, etc, only if properly trained (including completion of induction procedures as required) and authorised to do so.</li>
<li>Not wilfully or recklessly interfere with anything that might harm the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others.</li>
<li>Not attend work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Employees taking any medication must follow the directions of use and report to their supervisor if this substance may interfere with their performance at work.</li>
<li>Assist with Risk Assessments and Accident Investigation Reports when requested to do so.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>4 Selection Criteria</strong></p>
<p>As a key administrator in the support of student health and wellbeing within the College, the successful applicant will be expected to have or have the ability to acquire the:</p>
<p><strong>SC 1.</strong> Demonstrated ability to support the Christian ethos of the College.</p>
<p><strong>SC 2.</strong> Demonstrated professional skills in first aid procedures within a complex multi-faceted environment including record keeping in relation to policies, procedures, personnel, stock and budgets. Similar nursing experience within a school environment would be an advantage as well as knowledge of data base software. The successful candidate will be expected to show initiative, work with minimal direction and contribute to improvement in the Health Centre and medical practices.</p>
<p><strong>SC 3.</strong> An understanding and commitment to workplace health and safety within the day to day operations and activities of the College with a focus on the Health Centre.</p>
<p><strong>SC 4.</strong> Demonstrated high levels of interpersonal capabilities in areas such as teamwork, organisation, time management and communication. Applicants should demonstrate highly developed written and verbal skills, confidence, confidentiality, and be able to work professionally in a high quality, service based environment. A commitment to ongoing learning will be required.</p>

<p><strong>5 Qualifications, Review and Conditions</strong></p>
<p>Salary and related conditions are in accordance with the current School Officers’ Award - Non-Governmental Schools and the Lutheran Church of Australia, Queensland District Certified Agreement. School officers will need to develop a professional learning plan each year and complete a review process on an annual basis.</p>
