This<strong> full-time role</strong> is scheduled to commence on <strong>Monday, 21 July 2025</strong>. The Instructional Leader Humanities (Years 5-8) position is a 2-point promotional role, temporary for up to 3 years, however your teaching position will be full-time and permanent.<br><br><strong>About the Role</strong><br><br>
As an <strong>Instructional Leader Humanities (Years 5-8)</strong>, you work to ensure every student reaches their full potential through high quality, collaborative and engaging pedagogy.<br><br>
The Instructional Leader forms part of the middle leadership team. The position is co-responsible with the Pastor, Principal and other Catholic lay leaders for the evangelising and catechising mission of the Church within an educational context. Reporting to the Assistant Principal: Middle School, the Instructional Leader plays a vital role in ensuring that the SCS values of empathy, excellence, truth, curiosity and collaboration are drivers for establishing a thriving Catholic community.<br><br>
The Instructional Leader is responsible for leading schoolwide excellence in pedagogical, curriculum and assessment practices and supporting the implementation of new pedagogies for learning in their key learning area(s). The Instructional Leader is an exemplary practitioner who builds the capacity of teachers to deliver excellent student outcomes.<br><br><strong>Major Accountabilities</strong><br><br>
The Instructional Leader is required to perform tasks that include but are not limited to:</p>
<ul>
<li>supporting the leadership of a school-wide culture of excellence, informed decision-making, and collaborative practice</li>
<li>working with the leadership team and other stakeholders in implementing a range of improvement strategies to ensure effective strategic change</li>
<li>actively promoting the integration of Catholic values and Catholic Social Teaching across the curriculum</li>
<li>ensuring consistency of teaching practice and shared teacher judgement drives assessment</li>
<li>demonstrating exemplary classroom teaching practice in their curriculum speciality</li>
<li>cultivating a contemporary and effective learning culture</li>
<li>developing and implementing effective and evidence-based professional learning to build the capacity of teachers</li>
<li>ensuring evaluation of teaching and teachers' goal setting related to performance and monitoring performance goal achievement</li>
<li>leading and collaborating within a culture of ongoing growth and improvement</li>
<li>demonstrating organisational, management and leadership skills</li>
<li>analysing data and trends within the school to identify areas for growth</li>
<li>actively promoting the relationship between student wellbeing and learning growth</li>
<li>contributing to a 'network approach' that promotes the reciprocal benefits of school system</li>
<li>ensuring all work activities align with SCS' vision, mission, values and Capability Framework</li>

<p><strong>Key Duties</strong><br><br>
In this position, your primary duties will include:</p>
<ul>
<li>demonstrating and leading exemplary, innovative and evidence-based real-world learning practice in selecting, organising and evaluating the content and delivering learning and teaching programs in the area of Humanities</li>
<li>promoting hands-on, active, cooperative, integrated & project-based learning throughout the Middle Years community and providing hands-on guidance to teachers as they create and implement the College's integrated learning program</li>
<li>advancing the College's Phronesis Program collaboratively with staff and students</li>
<li>working with the Instructional Leader: Diverse Learning (K-12) to devise intervention strategies which support and challenge underachieving students across all abilities to succeed and achieve their personal best</li>
<li>tracking student performance within the faculty and ensuring that effective assessment, responsiveness to data, timely feedback and differentiation are embedded within teaching programs and practices</li>
<li>coordinating administrative and compliance processes related to curriculum and assessment for Stages 3 and 4 English and HSIE</li>
<li>monitoring teachers' goal setting related to performance and evaluating the achievement of set goals</li>
<li>developing effective collaboration and cooperative practices with the Instructional Leaders HSIE (9-12) and English (9-12) to ensure alignment of the curriculum.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Knowledge and Experience</strong><br><br><strong>Essential</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>NESA recognised qualification in Education or Teaching</li>
<li>experienced Proficient Teacher who can demonstrate success in improving student outcomes and implementing school-wide initiatives</li>
<li>demonstrated practice of the Higher Levels of Accreditation (Highly Accomplished or Lead) set out in the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (accreditation is not essential)</li>
<li>experienced in leading staff in professional learning</li>
<li>demonstrated organisational, management and leadership skills, with an ability to collaborate and lead in through the lens of continuous improvement</li>
<li>deep understanding, engagement and experience in key learning area/s of expertise</li>
<li>experienced in using data analysis to inform educational initiatives</li>
<li>Category C Accreditation per the 'Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Sydney Catholic Schools Policy' (or working towards)</li>
<li>technology proficiency in Google Suite</li>
<li>a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC)</li>
<li>willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Desirable</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>previous experience in a similar role</li>
<li>Postgraduate degree in Education or other related discipline</li>
<li>a current driver's licence and access to a car</li>
<li>knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems</li>
<li>is a practising Catholic with demonstrated evidence of ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and engagement in the life of a Catholic faith community such as a parish or an established community within the Catholic Church, as an expression of their relationship with Jesus Christ.</li>
