You will be responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and organisation of laboratory materials and equipment, while upholding the highest standards of safety, efficiency and compliance.</p> <p>This role requires a highly organised and proactive professional who is passionate about supporting science education, ensuring safe laboratory practice, and contributing positively to a collaborative and student-focused team environment.</p> <p>This role is 0.6 FTE (3 days per week) and continuing. If you wish to have a variation considered, please outline the details of your preferred variation in your cover letter.</p> <p><strong><u>Key Responsibilities</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>Prepare chemical solutions, stains, media, and specialist equipment for science practical classes.</li> <li>Order, stock and maintain laboratory supplies, ensuring efficient access and appropriate storage.</li> <li>Maintain accurate inventories of equipment, chemicals, and materials across the science department.</li> <li>Ensure compliance with OHS regulations, including maintaining a current SDS register, Dangerous Goods register, and associated risk assessments.</li> <li>Service, clean, tag-test, and where possible, repair science equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.</li> <li>Develop and maintain systems for the safe handling, transport, storage, and disposal of chemicals.</li> <li>Liaise regularly with teaching staff to support lesson planning, specialist setups, and classroom demonstrations.</li> <li>Support the induction of new staff in science practices and procedures.</li> <li>Maintain records of purchases, supplier correspondence, and budget tracking in collaboration with the administration team.</li> <li>Attend Science Department meetings and provide technical advice and support for practical tasks and risk assessments.</li> </ul> <p><strong><u>About you</u></strong></p> <ul> <li>A current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo a National Police Check.</li> <li>Demonstrate support for the Catholic ethos and values of Iona College Geelong.</li> <li>Be dependable, trustworthy, and capable of working independently and within a team.</li> <li>Exhibit resilience, flexibility and a solutions-focused mindset.</li> <li>Communicate effectively and compassionately, particularly in high-pressure situations.</li> <li>Display enthusiasm for working in an educational setting with young people.</li> <li>Embrace a growth mindset and be open to ongoing learning and professional development.</li> <li>Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgement at all times.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Why Join Us?</strong></p> <ul> <li>A welcoming and values-based school community</li> <li>Ongoing professional learning and development opportunities</li> <li>A supportive and collaborative team environment</li> <li>The opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students</li> </ul> <p><strong>How to Apply</strong><br> Please submit visit our website for a role description and instructions on how to apply.&nbsp;</p> <p><a href="https://iona.vic.edu.au/employment/" rel="nofollow">Employment | Iona College Geelong</a></p> <p>Applications close 18th June 2025 at 4pm</p>
