St Dominic’s College, Kingswood is seeking an Indigenous Education Liaison Officer to support the academic, cultural and pastoral needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This full-time role works closely with students, families and community to strengthen engagement and improve educational outcomes.
<p><i>St Dominic’s College, Kingswood is a Catholic school in the Blessed Edmund Rice tradition conducted by Edmund Rice Education Australia. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1959, the College has a current enrolment of 1000 boys. The mission of St Dominic's College is to create a caring environment where excellence in Education is evident within the Catholic tradition and the Spirit of Edmund Rice.</i></p>
<p>The College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Indigenous Education Liaison Officer to join our community. We strive to strengthen cultural awareness and educational outcomes for Indigenous students and actively seek to create meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities. The position would commence as soon as possible, or a date negotiated with the Acting College Principal.</p>
<p><strong>About the Role</strong></p>
<p>The successful applicant will join our Diverse Learning and Identity Teams and will be instrumental in supporting Indigenous students academically, socially and culturally while fostering strong connections between the school, families and the broader Indigenous community. The successful candidate will work closely with staff and students to promote a culturally responsive learning environment and enhance engagement in education.</p>
<p><strong>Key responsibilities </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Provide culturally appropriate support and advocacy for Indigenous students to enhance their educational experiences and outcomes. </li>
<li>Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous families and community members to foster engagement and participation. </li>
<li>Collaborate with College Leadership and Teaching staff to implement culturally inclusive curriculum and initiatives. </li>
<li>Assist in developing strategies to improve Indigenous student retention, attendance and overall wellbeing. </li>
<li>Organise and facilitate cultural events, workshops and learning opportunities for staff and students. </li>
<li>Support Indigenous students in their academic progress and career pathways, including mentoring and transition support. </li>
<li>Work collaboratively with external Indigenous organisations and networks to strengthen support structures for students. </li>
<li>Provide in-class and small-group support for Indigenous students with diverse learning needs, including literacy and numeracy interventions.</li>
<li>Utilise strong ICT skills to support student learning in a contemporary educational setting.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Essential Criteria:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be able to engage and connect with Aboriginal Elders and local community organisations.</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous students, families and communities. </li>
<li>Have a strong commitment to Catholic values and the mission of St Dominic’s College.</li>
<li>Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive student relationships.</li>
<li>Show a commitment to improving student outcomes and well-being.</li>
<li>Have an understanding of the pastoral needs of young men in an educational setting.</li>
<li>Exhibit a strong work ethic and commitment to ongoing professional development.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Highly Desirable Criteria:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Experience working in a school environment or youth support role.</li>
<li>Knowledge of school systems and Indigenous Education policies.</li>
<li>Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational skills.</li>
