St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully

Appointment of Business Manager

Application Process

Overview

St Joseph’s College is a welcoming Catholic community located in the outer eastern suburb of Ferntree Gully.

We are leaders in boys’ education. We provide a Catholic education that inspires dynamic learning that is life-focused, person-centred and built on the respect between teacher and student. Our broad and innovative curriculum and co-curriculum cater for the needs of all our students academically, pastorally and culturally.

With more than 1000 students and over 150 staff, our community draws inspiration from the Salesian tradition and the example of St John Bosco.

Vision

In keeping with the Spirit of St John Bosco whereby Education is a matter of the heart and leads young people to “know that they are loved”, the Salesian school community of today is challenged to be:

A Home that welcomes

A Parish that evangelises

A School that prepares for life

A Playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves

History

St Joseph’s College first opened its doors in 1965 as one of a series of regional Colleges which the Catholic Education authorities were building in strategic parts of the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

Father Colin Miller, Parish Priest of Ferntree Gully at the time, was a great devotee of St John Bosco and keen supporter of the Salesians. He was a driving force behind the project to build St Joseph’s College and for it to come under the care of the Salesians. A strong Salesian presence is still an integral part of the College today.

The College was built on land belonging to the Ferntree Gully parish and with 56 students studying Form 1 (Year 7) it was little more than a corridor flanked by 3 classrooms, a small office and a storeroom. Each year the College facilities grew, and more year levels were added to cater for the many students travelling from the surrounding parishes.

Through the years the College has continued to expand and diversify to include a wide range of innovative programs and curriculum for boys from Years 7-12.

We welcome all boys and their families. Our School celebrates diversity and promotes relationships built on mutual respect.

The distinctive identity and character of St Joseph’s College is linked with Salesian history, culture and values.

The College is part of the network of MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools) and we value the strong links we maintain with all that MACs provides.

Background

The College seeks to appoint a Business Manager at an exciting time as the College continues to implement its Strategic Plan (initially launched in 2017), ‘Towards 2040 – An Adventure in the Spirit.’

The College is thriving with strong enrolments, excellent VCE results and diverse pathways to suit the needs of boys.

In recent years, the College has undertaken extensive building works including:

Year 7 Building (Classrooms, Amphitheatre, Learning Zones, Hub Space)

Senior School Building (Year 11 and 12)

Visual and Performing Arts Complex

Science Complex (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, General Science, Outdoor Science, Hub Space)

STEM, Digital Technologies, Robotics Complex

AFL Oval size increased in size with lights

Full FIFA size Soccer Field with lights

Full size Hockey Field with 8 Tennis Courts with lights

Running Track

Field Events - High Jump; Triple/Long Jump etc

Current building projects include:

Year 8 Centre and Student Wellbeing Hub

Front Entry Statement

Colin Miller Precinct - Landscaping and Redevelopment

Future projects include:

Project 1815 (in planning stages)

Redevelopment of the College Stadium

VET Hospitality and Cookery

Rebuild of Food Technology

Function Centre and Sport Pavilion

High Performance Sports Centre

Café Bosco and Canteen Redevelopment

Application Process

Applicants should submit:

A covering letter of no more than one page

Response to the key Selection Criteria (responses to the criteria should not exceed four A4 pages)

The names and contact details (email and mobile) of three professional referees

Applications should be addressed to the Principal, Cathy Livingston, at careers@stjosephs.com.au

Applications for the Business Manager role must be received via email (careers@stjosephs.com.au) no later than 5pm on Tuesday 3 June 2025.

It is anticipated that short-listing will take place by Friday 6 June with first round interviews being held in the period 10-13 June.

Commencement – Monday 21 July 2025 or by negotiation

Any enquiries about the position should be directed, in the first instance, to careers@stjosephs.com.au or by calling the Principal via 9756 3112.

Selection Criteria

See Position Description below.

Business Manager

Position Description

The Business Manager is a member of the Leadership Team.
