Science Laboratory Assistant

The position will assist the Faculty Leader – Science and the Science Laboratory Technician as well as teaching staff to deliver effective practical science activities to enable hands on and inquiry-based learning opportunities to encourage student engagement in the science curriculum.

<p><strong>About the role</strong></p>
<p>The position will assist the Faculty Leader – Science and the Science Laboratory Technician as well as teaching staff to deliver effective practical science activities to enable hands on and inquiry-based learning opportunities to encourage student engagement in the science curriculum.</p>
<p><strong>About the contract</strong></p>
<p>The position is<strong> </strong>permanent, part time (22 hours per week), term time (40 weeks per year).</p>
<p><strong>About you</strong></p>
<p>To be considered for this role you will need:</p>
<ul>
<li>Valid working rights within Australia.</li>
<li>Be committed to the goals, ethos and mission of the College as a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition.</li>
<li>Possess a current Queensland Working with Children Blue Card for paid employees before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland Government.</li>
<li>Certificate III Laboratory Skills or Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or demonstrated relevant experience.</li>
<li>Current Drivers Licence.</li>
<li>Provide First Aid Certificate and Provide CPR Certificate (desirable). </li>
<li>Sound knowledge of all strands of Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Earth/Space Science, Physics, and Psychology).</li>
<li>Sound knowledge of current laboratory and experimental procedures, including relevant Workplace Health and Safety, risk and chemical management systems.</li>
<li>Experience in a similar role in a secondary school, supporting teachers in a classroom setting, whilst displaying respect, patience and empathy for students.</li>
<li>Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.</li>
<li>Administrative and accurate data entry skills including demonstrated experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programs (particularly Word and Excel) and information management systems.</li>
<li>Interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to interact positively with a wide range of stakeholders including, students, staff, and the wider community.</li>
<li>Organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan ahead and prioritise in order to meet competing deadlines.</li>
<li>Ability to work autonomously, as well as contribute towards a team environment.</li>
</ul>
