<p><strong>Location:</strong> World Square, CBD&nbsp;<br><strong>Commencement Date:</strong> Immediate start or by negotiation<br><strong>Closing Date: </strong>Monday, 28 April 2025&nbsp;<br><strong>Capacity: </strong>Fixed Term, Full-time (5-year appointment)<br><br><strong>About the Role</strong><br><br>Our SCS service provision in the areas of Governance, Legal, Child Safety, Risk and Assurance is changing. We are strengthening our capabilities and ensuring that each function receives the focused attention and resources it needs, whilst enhancing our organisational effectiveness and supporting our ongoing commitment to excellence. This newly scoped role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Governance and Legal leader to join our SCS Executive Team.<br><br>The successful applicant will apply their deep knowledge, and extensive experience, as a senior legal officer in a medium-large organisation to lead a professional team. This executive role will operationalise SCS' new strategic plan and expertly manage the governance and legal functional teams to work effectively to deliver on organisational priorities and provide a quality service to SCS staff, students and families.<br><br>The role oversees SCS' Board coordination and support, and the management of current legal matters. It will be imperative for the Director to work collaboratively within, and across, the organisation as the legal team is an important, and critical, resource that supports, and advises, all directorates and schools.&nbsp;<br><br>The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:</p><ul><li>providing executive leadership for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives, frameworks, policies, systems and processes to deliver improved outcomes relating to Governance and Legal accountabilities</li><li>providing authoritative advice on complex and/or sensitive legal matters and overseeing the provision of a range of legal services spanning education, commercial and property law, contract management, administrative law, information access and privacy, copyright and intellectual property, family law, interaction of canon law within SCS, disputes and litigation</li><li>engaging critical stakeholders in the management of SCS' Legal Compliance Framework</li><li>advising on enterprise governance structures to ensure effective governance of the organisation and enable effective decision-making&nbsp;<br>leading the delivery and maintenance of effective Board and Board sub committee governance frameworks and the development and implementation of operational strategies to facilitate sound corporate governance for the Board and its subcommittees</li><li>delivering training in key governance and legal focus areas</li><li>leading a team of professionals to work collaboratively and prioritise professional growth and development</li><li>being contactable and available out of work hours to respond to urgent matters</li><li>ensuring all work activities align with SCS' vision, mission, values and Capability Framework</li><li>reporting all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct to the line manager and the SCS Child Safety team. SCS is a child-safe environment and all concerns regarding child safety and allegations of inappropriate conduct will be treated seriously</li><li>promoting and implementing Sydney Catholic Schools mission and vision To know and love Christ through learning and Thriving Catholic communities through excellent teaching and learning</li><li>promoting and abiding by Sydney Catholic Schools values of empathy, curiosity, excellence, collaboration and truth</li><li>any other duties as directed from time to time.</li></ul><p><strong>About You</strong><br><br>To be successful in this position, you will have the following:</p><ul><li>postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning</li><li>at least 10 years post qualified experience in a similar legal and/or governance role, working in a medium-large organisation in education, academia, consulting, not-for-profit or similar environment</li><li>demonstrated leadership success in a similar role with a strong background in influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills</li><li>deep and contemporary knowledge of educational governance and law</li><li>a high level of competence in managing legal matters and investigations</li><li>demonstrated experience in leading a multi-disciplined team</li><li>demonstrated knowledge, experience and passion for leading transformational change to improve outcomes</li><li>demonstrated ability and willingness to challenge existing processes and structures and explore contemporary working methods</li><li>demonstrated success in working cooperatively and collaboratively at executive level&nbsp;<br>an unrestricted Practicing Certificate</li><li>demonstrated evidence of an ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church, including practising your faith and engaging in the life of a Catholic faith community, such as a parish, as an expression of your relationship with Jesus Christ</li><li>an ability to demonstrate and represent the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools through personal and professional conduct</li><li>proficiency in Google Suite</li><li>a current driver's licence and access to a car.</li></ul><p><i>Desirable criteria:</i></p><ul><li>senior leadership experience in the Catholic Education sector</li><li>knowledge of Catholic Systemic Schools/Systems</li></ul><p><strong>Why Work for Sydney Catholic Schools</strong><br><br>In joining SCS, you will be part of the largest Catholic education community in NSW.
