Why don’t you come and join us?</p><p><strong>The Role</strong></p><p>The Social Worker / Counsellor provides counselling, advocacy, case management, and referral services to students and families, addressing social and emotional barriers to learning. Reporting to the Assistant Principal – Wellbeing and Growth, and working under the Head of Counselling, the role focuses on one-to-one student support, and family and community engagement, while collaborating with school staff and external agencies to foster a supportive educational environment.</p><p><strong>Key Selection Criteria</strong></p><p>Essential Qualifications and Experience:</p><ul><li>Qualifications in Social Work or Counselling.</li><li>Experience providing counselling and wellbeing support to young people.</li><li>Knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health, and trauma-informed care.</li><li>Understanding of NSW child protection laws and mandatory reporting.</li><li>Strong interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.</li><li>Strong organisational skills to manage a diverse caseload.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality within an educational setting.</li></ul><p><strong>Desirable Qualifications and Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Experience in a secondary school setting.</li><li>Additional training in counselling or mental health interventions.</li><li>Knowledge of the National Wellbeing Framework and Positive Education practices.</li><li>Experience in case management and multi-agency collaboration within a school context.</li><li>Experience in delivering group programs and workshops.</li></ul><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><p>Student Support:</p><ul><li>Provide counselling and intervention for students experiencing emotional, social, or behavioural challenges.</li><li>Assess student needs and develop appropriate intervention strategies.</li><li>Implement early intervention and preventative wellbeing programs.</li><li>Support students in developing resilience, coping strategies, and social skills.</li><li>Provide crisis intervention and support for students at risk.</li><li>Liaise with learning support staff to facilitate appropriate academic accommodations and interventions.</li><li>Assist with Educational Access Scheme (EAS) and NESA disability provisions for the HSC.</li></ul><p>Family and Community Engagement:</p><ul><li>Work with families to support student wellbeing and engagement.</li><li>Provide parents/carers with relevant information and resources.</li><li>Advocate for students and families to access support services.</li><li>Offer guidance to parents while ensuring student privacy.</li><li>Facilitate referrals to external health professionals in consultation with parents, ensuring coordinated care.</li><li>Assist with student transitions from primary to secondary school.</li><li>Support funding applications by preparing psychological reports.</li></ul><p>Collaboration with School Staff:</p><ul><li>Work as part of the wellbeing team to implement student support strategies.</li><li>Provide staff with guidance on student wellbeing and mental health.</li><li>Share relevant student information with Leaders of House and Home Room Tutors.</li><li>Develop behaviour modification programs with Leaders of Learning and Assistant Principals – Wellbeing and Growth.</li><li>Consult with wellbeing leaders on student cases.</li><li>Attend case conferences, including House Review Meetings.</li></ul><p><strong>Other</strong></p><ul><li>Salary and conditions will be as per the NSW Catholic Independent Schools (Support Staff – Model B) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2023.</li><li>This is a child-related position.  Preferred candidates are required to possess a valid a Working With Children Check and will be subject to identification verification.</li><li>Compliance with all school policies and professional standards.</li><li>Participation in professional supervision and development.</li><li>Some after-hours work may be required for school events and meetings.</li><li>This position description outlines the key duties and responsibilities of the College Social Worker (Counsellor) role.
