They are empowered to take their place as future leaders who will make a significant and positive difference in our world. </p><p> </p><p><strong>Position Purpose</strong></p><p>The Assistant Head of the English Department gives expression to the College’s Mission and Vision by working with the Head of the English Department to develop a positive learning culture in English classes, centred on best practice. They will be an experienced and exceptional teacher of Advanced English with the skills to mentor staff to create a highly functioning, collaborative team. This leader of learning will be accomplished in current pedagogical strategies and data analysis to focus the department on improving learning outcomes.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Reporting Accountabilities</strong></p><p>The Assistant Head of English is responsible and accountable to the College Principal.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Role Accountabilities</strong></p><p>The teacher will be responsible for delivering the NESA curriculum in stage 4, 5 and 6. For a full description of the role of the classroom teacher at Stella Maris College, see attachment.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Remuneration</strong></p><p>The remuneration for the position will be as follows:</p><ul><li>Commensurate with the applicant’s level of qualification, demonstration of teaching expertise as detailed in the CMEA</li><li>Superannuation Guarantee as at the current rate paid by the College in addition to salary</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Start Date</strong><br />The preferred start date is mid-Term 2; however, there is flexibility to commence at a later date if required.</p><p><strong>Essential Criteria</strong></p><ul><li>Relevant teaching qualifications and experience teaching Stage 6 Advanced and Standard English with a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a school.</li><li>Highly developed organisational skills, effectively maintaining College deadlines and procedures</li><li>A demonstrated ability to work in high-pressure situations, with changing priorities.</li><li>A strong commitment to promoting Catholic Good Samaritan values.</li><li>A proven ability to work in a collaborative environment as a member of a team and as a leader of a team.</li><li>Expertise as a proficient teacher able to model and coach quality teaching practices.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Conditions of Appointment</strong></p><ul><li>The Assistant Head of Department is appointed by the College Principal</li><li>The position will carry a 1-point Coordinator allowance in time and salary.</li><li>The Assistant Head of Department is a permanent position subject to the successful completion of a 6-month probation period.</li><li>Applicants must be accredited with NESA as a proficient teacher and have appropriate qualifications. </li><li>Preferred applicants will be screened in accordance with Child Protection Legislation.</li><li>The appointee must hold a current Working with Children Check.</li><li>This role description may be subject to change at the discretion of the College Principal at any time. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities and accountabilities.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Workplace Health and Safety </strong></p><p>Employees are responsible and accountable for: </p><ul><li>Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control</li><li>Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.</li><li>Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace</li><li>Where required, correct utilisation of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment or Personal Protective Clothing</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Child Safe Standards </strong></p><p>Stella Maris College is committed to ensuring that all those engaged in the College promote the fundamental right of children and young people to be respected in a safe school environment.
