<p>NextSense is a not-for-profit organisation supporting people with vision or hearing loss across Australia. We work with children, adults, and their families, providing a holistic approach to hearing services for newborns through to people over 90 years old, and helping children who are blind or have low vision to develop the right skills, mobility, and independence to confidently explore their world.</p><p>NextSense has been breaking boundaries since 1860, and we’ve been expanding our services ever since. Today, we deliver world-class education (both to children with sensory loss and to professionals in the field), cochlear implants, allied health services, therapy, research, and clinical services to children and adults. We’re a registered NDIS provider, working with our clients to achieve their own goals and potential.</p><p>We’re committed to research and innovation; harnessing the latest technologies and new ways of thinking and educating the next generation to lead the way in hearing and vision services.</p><p>We recently opened our new world-leading centre for innovation on-site at Macquarie University, This nationally significant social infrastructure project was undertaken to nurture, trial and share new ideas and form new partnerships that will drive better outcomes for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or have low vision.<br /><br /><strong>Job Description</strong><br /><br />NextSense has an exciting opportunity for a School Assistant to join our brand new school in Macquarie Park. This is a permanent, part-time role, working 12.5 hours per week and which reports directly to the Head of School. </p><p>You’ll make a difference in this role by:  </p><ul><li>Supporting the delivery of education/intervention programs in accordance with the vision, mission, values and standards of NextSense.  </li><li>Embracing a culture of quality and innovation that enhances educational opportunities and outcomes for children with sensory disability. </li><li>Enhancing the profile and reputation of NextSense, generally, and the Department, specifically, in the community.  </li><li>Sharing knowledge and expertise generated within the department with others. </li></ul><p><strong>What we can offer: </strong></p><ul><li>Access to Salary Packaging </li><li>Access to our Employee Assistance Program. </li><li>A welcoming and supportive environment. </li><li>An innovative new working environment </li><li>Professional Development in working with children with disabilities. </li></ul><p><strong>Desired Skills and Experience </strong></p><p>To be successful in this role you&#39;ll need to demonstrate you meet the following selection criteria.  </p><ul><li>Excellent communication and an ability to work positively and collaboratively in a team environment. </li><li>Demonstrated initiative and flexibility in the work environment. </li><li>Experience working with students across a wide range of additional and diverse needs. </li><li>Ability to develop positive student relationships and manage student behaviour. </li><li>Willingness to assist students with physical, mobility and personal care challenges and supervise students on the playground. </li><li>Experience with implementing specific intervention programs.  </li><li>Certificate III/IV in Education Support or currently working towards. </li><li>Working with children who are blind or have low vision is desirable. </li><li>A current NSW driver’s licence. </li><li>A first aid certificate. </li><li>A working with children’s check. </li><li>A criminal record check. </li></ul><p><strong>Compliance with child protection legislation is essential. </strong></p><p>We’re here to help.
