As Head of Science at Stile, you’ll be responsible for driving the vision of our science teaching and learning resources in Australia and the US. You’ll be creating the end-to-end curriculum of your dreams.

We want students equipped with the critical thinking skills and problem solving tools needed to tackle the big issues of today, and tomorrow.</p><p>Today, more than <strong>1-in-3 Australian secondary schools</strong> teach with our science curriculum. Tomorrow, the same will be true in the USA. It’s <a href="https://stileeducation.com/au/why-choose-stile/what-teachers-are-saying/" rel="nofollow">widely loved</a>.</p><p>But we’re only just getting started, and we need your help!</p><p>As <strong>Head of Science </strong>at Stile, you’ll be responsible for driving the vision of our science teaching and learning resources in Australia and the US. <strong>You’ll be creating the end-to-end curriculum of your dreams</strong>. From the scope and sequence, to every lab, video, question and assessment. To bring this vision to life, you’ll lead a team of incredibly talented designers, illustrators, scientists, writers, editors, educators and engineers to create resources that will inspire and challenge young minds.</p><p><strong>We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes science education</strong>. Someone who delights in crafting innovative ways to engage students in real-world issues in the science classroom. The internet democratised information. We believe that with a strong command of science, tomorrow’s citizens and leaders have a fighting chance of sorting the misinformation from the facts.</li><li><strong>Spend time in classrooms, working with teachers and students to refine your teaching and learning resources.</strong> So far this year the Stile team has taught well in excess of 100 classes (team teaching with classroom teachers at Stile schools), and have observed hundreds more. Expect to teach and demonstrate the lessons you’ve created alongside your colleagues. Expect to attend major science conferences. No ivory towers here.</li></ul><p><strong>How you’ll spend your time</strong></p><p>You’ll work side-by-side with our ‘dream team’ of other teachers, simulation designers, illustrators, animators and editors to make the best science resource in the known universe.</p><p>This role will vary from day to day. It will always be interesting but might include: </p><ul><li>Maintaining and refining Stile’s recommended scope and sequence for all our supported markets in Australia and the US.</li><li>Finding innovative ways to take the best aspects of the Australian and International science curricula and bringing them together to create phenomena-driven units of work that will engage teachers and students around the world. </li><li>Writing and reviewing lessons, activities from a teacher and student perspective prior to release.</li><li>Working with our creative team, including artists, videographers and simulation designers to craft innovative new ways of presenting scientific concepts.</li><li>Building and maintaining a network of subject matter experts to advise on the technical and cultural aspects of our lessons.</li><li>Building and maintaining an advisory board of the best science educators across the globe. </li><li>Visiting classrooms and conferences in Australia and the US to observe Stile in action, talk to teachers and stay on top of the latest thinking.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>A bit more about you</strong></p><p>We think this job would best suit someone who has previously been a Head of Science or has held other school leadership roles with a pedagogy and curriculum focus. Having said that, <strong>we’re really open to hearing from a wide range of candidates. </strong></p><p>Here are some of the things we think will help you be successful, but you do not need all of these to apply.</p><ul><li>You have a strong science background. Having a specialisation in chemistry, physics or maths is advantageous. You naturally like to keep abreast of scientific and technological advancements.</li><li>You’ve got a strong understanding of evidence-based pedagogies, and you have experience deploying those in the classroom.</li><li>You’ve got experience with curriculum and program development. Familiarity with the NGSS is a bonus.</li><li>You’ve got a knack for finding innovative and creative ways to present topics in the science classroom in a way that engages students. </li><li>Note you need not be a science teacher, though it’s clearly advantageous. We’d love to chat to people with a range of backgrounds.</li><li>You excel in communicating complex scientific ideas clearly to a younger audience.</li><li>You love working in a fast-paced environment. We’re small; we move quickly.</li><li>You’re eager to learn. Super eager. You soak up feedback, incorporate it, and are constantly driven to be better. You can’t help it. You’re constantly thinking about how you could do your job better.</li></ul><p> </p><p><strong>Hours and location</strong></p><p>This is a full time, permanent role with some flexible work hours. While we think collaboration in an office environment is an important part of building the best possible resources. We also appreciate that working from home or away from the office both offers time to really concentrate and the flexibility needed in modern life. Need to pick up the kids?
